Raiding the opposition is BJP’s coping mechanism: Rahul Gandhi | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed the Election Commission, hours after the poll body ordered repolling in Assam’s Ratabari after reports of EVMs in a BJP candidate’s car. The candidate, Krishnendu Paul, is a sitting MLA from Patharkandi.
Acknowledging that there was a “violation of transport protocol,” the Commission, in a press statement released Friday morning, said that it has issued a show-cause notice to the Presiding Officer and also suspended him along with three other officers for the lapse.
The Congress leader tweeted in Hindi, saying that not only was the EC’s car allegedly damaged, ‘the condition of democracy, too, had worsened because of the BJP’s ill-intentions.’

Hours later, the former Congress president continued his tirade and tweeted,”Raiding the opposition is BJP’s coping mechanism when faced with electoral defeat.”

Addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said the BJP should now be called the EVM ‘Chor’ (Thief ) party.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Varda attacked the BJP for allegedly trying to manipulate the polls and called for a “serious re-evaluation of the use of electronic voting machines (EVM)” by all national parties.
“What is the script? …The innocent Election Commission continued to ride in it. Dear EC, what is the matter? You must give the country some clarification on this,” Priyanka tweeted.
Assam Congress President Ripun Bora retweeted the video and alleged that ‘open loot and rigging of EVMs’ has to stop immediately. He also threatened that “the party would boycott the election if action is not being taken”.
Polling for the third and last phase of assembly polls in Assam will be held on April 6 and the counting of votes will take place on May 2.
