PM Narendra Modi chairs high-level meet to review Covid situation as cases surge | India News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the Covid-19 situation and the speed of vaccination drive in the country. Senior officers including the cabinet secretary, principal secretary to the PM, the health secretary and Niti Aayog member, Dr Vinod Paul are attending the meeting.
The meeting comes in the wake of the country recording an explosive 93,249 new Covid-19 infections, the highest tally recorded since September 19 when India had recorded 93, 337 Covid cases.
The death toll due to Covid-19 has reached 1,64,623, with 513 new fatalities being reported in the last 24 hours, according to the ministry of health and family welfare. With the present rise in cases, India thus, has once again become the worst Covid-affected country in the world, leaving behind the United States of America and Brazil.
